GirlTalk Journalism and Art Summer Camp
Head Counselor Sabine Fuchs leading a session on article writing during our June 2024 Journalism & Art Camp. Laughter, learning, and collaboration all in one moment!
The GirlTalk Journalism & Art Camp is a week-long summer program created to empower middle school girls and gender-expansive youth through writing, visual storytelling, and creative collaboration. The camp, founded and led by high school students from GirlTalk, is partnered with Next Generation Scholars of Marin to bring together underrepresented voices to learn the skills of journalism, art, and leadership. Through hands-on workshops, inspiring guest speakers, and one-on-one mentorship, campers create and publish their very own magazine, while building confidence, community, and purpose.
The Camp Experience
Over the course of one week, campers brainstorm article ideas, conduct interviews, learn how to outline and revise, and explore visual storytelling through painting, collage, and zine-making. They hear from real journalists and artists, work closely with teen mentors, and collaborate to publish a full magazine by the end of the week. It’s fast-paced, creative, and camper-led.

Sabine Fuchs Summer Camp Founder & 2025 Head Counselor
“As someone who joined GirlTalk as a freshman staff artist, I never imagined it would grow into such a defining part of my life. Building this camp from the ground up and helping campers turn their stories into something real was powerful in a way I didn’t expect. It made all the late nights and planning worth it, and watching the campers find their voice reminded me why I started.”
